Hot embers that resulted in a fire destroyed a shed, some grass and the corner and inside of a home’s attic at a residence on Martin Luther King Dr. on Saturday night.
Atmore firefighters arrived on scene at 6:38 p.m. and used an offensive attack on the blaze, Capt. Daniel Love said.
“They were burning trash in the burn barrel during the game,” Love said. “Right after the game was over, they left. It was pretty windy that evening, and it blew hot embers out in the yard. Then, the fire went to going.”
Love said the fire set the grass on fire, burned a shed down next to the residence at 1344 Martin Luther King Dr., and burned the corner of the house, under the roof line and into the attic.
Love said Poarch Fire Department provided mutual aid and all off-duty personnel were called.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
