Andrew Jackson Beck

Andrew Jackson “Jack” Beck, 78, of Davisville, Fla., passed away Wed., March 22, 2017, in Atmore.

He was born in Davisville on Oct. 26, 1938, to the late Andrew Franklin and Mable Marie Dove Beck.

He was a retired first sergeant with the Army National Guard (Company A 711 Signal Battalion). He was a barber for many years. He started at the OK Barber Shop and then later worked part time at Elite Barber Shop. He was a post master of Carney Lodge and a mason for 50 years.

Survivors are his wife, Sue Amos Beck of Century, Fla.; one sister, Opal Beck Rider of Wild Fork; a nephew, Rusty Rider; and a niece, Suzzane Mathis.

Services were held on March 26, 2017, from the First United Method Church of Atmore, with Dr. Debra Bishop officiating. Interment followed in Pine Barren Cemetery with full military honors.

Family received friends March 26 at the First United Methodist Church from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.

 

Ester Parker

Mrs. Ester Parker, a native of Frisco City and a resident of Mobile, passed away Mon., March 27, 2017, at a local nursing facility.

She was a faithful member of Church of The Good Shepherd in Mobile.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Mayberry Funeral Home.

Jean Solomon

Mrs. Jean Solomon, 79, passed away Mon., March 20, 2017, in Davisville, Fla.

She was a native of Walnut Hill, Fla. and has resided in Davisville most of her life. She attended the Eastside Assembly of God.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dovie B. Phillips and Lillie Williams Phillips; three brothers, Davie L. Phillips, Willard C. Phillips and Clarence W. Phillips; and two sisters, Emma Lee Reynolds and Merlene Sowell.

She is survived by her husband, Merrill “Tommy” Solomon of Davisville; one son, Byron Solomon of Pensacola; three daughters, Lisa Larsen of Pensacola, Dawn Ellison Beers of McDavid, Fla. and Angela Ellison (Richard) Cuadras of Pensacola; one brother, Lindy B. Phillips of Davisville; one sister, Ethel (Wendell) Wilcox of Daphne; four grandchildren, Caleb Beers, Brittany Lauren Beers, Lacey Jay Berg and Nicolas Cuadras; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 26, 2017, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Broadhead and the Rev. Ken Johnson officiating.

Burial followed at the Dry Springs Cemetery.

Joel Allen

Mr. Joel “Joey” Allen, 54, passed away on Thur., March 23, 2017, in Perdido.

He was a native of Pensacola and has resided in Perdido for most of his life. He attended the Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Melissa “Lisa” Allen.

He is survived by his parents, Reuben and Betty Allen of Perdido; two step sons, Jonathan Owens of Atmore and Joshua Owens of Rabun; one brother, Tommy Earl Allen of Hahnville, La.; two sisters, Wanda Carol Cersey of Perdido and Tammy Cheryl Claywell of West Virginia; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held March 27, 2017, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sister Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial followed at Dean Cemetery.

Joyce Bryars Etheridge

Mrs. Joyce Bryars Etheridge, 77, passed away on Sat., March 25, 2017, in Atmore.

She was a native of Perdido and had resided in Atmore since 1973. She attended the Splinter Hill Holiness Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Ernestine Bryars; first husband, Frank Stewart Jr.; brother, Terry Bryars; and son in law, James Snure.

She is survived by her husband, Billy C. Etheridge of Atmore; one son, Donnie (Sandra) Stewart of Atmore; two daughters, Fonda Snure of Milton, Fla. and Rochel (Keith) Martin of Atmore; two brothers, Larry (Carolyn) Bryars of Perdido and Larson (Margaret) Bryars of Perdido; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 28, 2017, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Angelo Thomley and the Rev. Chris Pruitt officiating.

Burial followed at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation was held March 27, 2017 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Keith Martin, Jonathan Rolin, Cody Black, Rodney McGhee, Marty Hadley and Michael Hadley.

Honorary pallbearers were Larry Bryars and Larson Bryars.

Willie Lee Curry

Mr. Willie Lee Curry, 77, of Atmore, answered the Master’s call on Sat., March 25, 2017, at Atmore Community Hospital.

A native of Escambia County, he was born to the parentage of the late, Woodrow Sr. and Rosie Curry; and attended Escambia County Training School. He moved to Jersey City, N.J. and lived for many years, retiring as a truck driver before moving back to Atmore in 2002. Upon moving back to Atmore, he united with the Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as chairman of the deacon board, Sunday School teacher and president of the male chorus until his passing. He also was a member of the Atmore Community Male Chorus. He loved fishing and working with lawns.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosie Lee Williams, Mary Crenshaw-Evans, Irene Coleman, Ethel Mae Bowen, Josephine Lewis, Lucy Curry, Catherine Curry and Louise Hawthorne; and his brothers, Eddie Lee Curry and Woodrow Curry Jr.

Those left to cherish his love and life are his devoted wife, Mary Curry of Atmore; one daughter, Susie (Walter Jr.) Brown of Jersey City; five sons, Willie Earl Curry, Eric (Charlotte) Curry, Greg (Rhonda) Curry, all of Jersey City, Michael (Sandra) Curry of Moncks Corner, S.C. and Mark Curry of Atlanta; two sisters, Elizabeth (Jimmy) McPherson and Savannah Curry, both of Atmore; three brothers, Samuel (Betty) Curry Sr., Aaron (Marjorie) Curry and Melvin (Clara) Curry, all of Atmore; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services reflecting his life will be held on Sat., April 1, 2017, at Morning Dove Baptist Church in Perdido at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis K. Stephen, pastor of Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church – Nokomis, as eulogist and the Rev. Stanley Cox, as host pastor. Inhumation will be in Mt. Shiloh Cemetery- Nokomis. Public viewing will be held Fri., March 31, 2017, from 2 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and his body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service at the church with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.
