The Lions Club was going strong 50 years ago in 1967. They were trying to sell brooms and had already sold $850 worth.

I know this has been a fundraiser for the Lions Club for a long time, but never bought one. It sounds like a good idea.

Congressman William Dickinson announced that he had introduced a bill to pay $14 million to the descendants of the Creek Indian Nation as of 1814.

I bet it was really fun to try to figure out just who was going to get some of that money. After 200 years, they seem to have figured it out and everybody hopefully gets their share.

I wish I could have been a descendant. I sure could use that extra money.

Alas, I don’t have any Indian in my lines, but my husband did. He never pursued trying to prove it because he had no proof, just family stories. Now he did have some Cherokee (Tillery) in his lines. He also had a line of Hammond that is said to have been of the Indians who befriended the English when they came to Roanoke Island. I wish I could prove that.

The sheriff’s department raided a still at Booneville. Two people were arrested and charged. The still was destroyed and so was 6,000 gallons of mash and 312 gallons of whisky.

Carp’s had a sale on dresses for $5 each. Now that is what I call a good price on a dress. Those times will never come again.

Escambia County High School baseball team won its first game of the season against Ernest Ward High School. Escambia County beat Ernest Ward 17-1.

The student council of Ernest Ward High School was going to have a game of donkey basketball with the juniors pitted against the seniors. If you have never seen one of these games, if you ever have a chance, go to see one. It is one of the funniest sights you will ever see.

Those donkeys just don’t want to play basketball.

The Twin County Coon Hunters Club was to hold a “coon on the log.”

Now I have no idea what that is. I did, believe it or not, go on a coon hunt once upon a time. It didn’t take me long to know that it was not for me. It takes too long to tree a coon and I was cold. Whoever decided to take me, never volunteered to do it again, I bet.

The Evergreen Post of the Alabama Highway Patrol was named the safest post in the State of Alabama.

The Fourth Annual Art Show was to open and run for eight days at the public library and would welcome art by adults and children throughout the area.

Jefferson Davis Junior College had its Grand Opening on the campus at Brewton.
