Sheriff’s official: Deputies called to residence for incident

A local family is dealing with tragedy today after a 3 month old was killed in what are still largely unknown circumstances.

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said a family member called 911 from a residence on Martinville Loop around noon Tuesday in regard to an incident, and the child was later pronounced dead at Atmore Community Hospital.

Lambert said all deaths are initially treated as homicides; however, he stressed deputies, along with officials from the Department of Human Resources, were only in the beginning stages of the investigation as of press time Tuesday.

Lambert said the child has since been taken to a facility in Mobile in order to determine a cause of death.
