Resuscitation efforts were performed on the 3 month old who died Tuesday, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said at approximately 11 a.m., the ECSO’s 911 dispatcher received a call from parents — whose names haven’t been released — who awoke to find a 3-month-old infant unresponsive at a residence on Martinville Loop in Atmore.
“The parents began CPR,” Lambert said. “The ambulance responded and resuscitation efforts were made.”
Lambert said the child was then transported to Atmore Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The body was then transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Mobile for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Lambert said.
“All deaths in Escambia County, whether unattended, suspicious or unknown in nature are always treated to the level of a homicide,” Lambert said.
Lambert said the parents are cooperating with law enforcement and the Department of Human Resources.
The case is still under investigation.
