Blue Devils ‘compete’ at OTA

Escambia County football coaches got a good chance to see the Blue Devils compete at a recent organized training activity (OTA) at the high school.

The OTA pitted ECHS against Satsuma in a no-scoring exhibition that included position drills, a 7-on-7 and some 11-on-11 work.

ECHS head football coach Rico Jackson said while there wasn’t a score kept at the OTA, he felt like the competition swung in the Blue Devils’ favor.

“As a staff, we are excited about the progress we’re making,” he said.

Jackson said at the end of the OTA, both teams participated in a 11-on-11. He said the 11-on-11 is becoming more popular these days.

If there was one area that the Blue Devils did particularly well in, it was the offensive and defensive line work, Jackson said.

“The entire group did well, but the offensive and defensive line stood out,” he said. “They were just being physical and being coachable and doing their job. That’s a big thing for us; doing your job and going full speed.”

Up next for the Blue Devils includes an overnight camp at Hueytown on July 14-15. The camp is called the North Alabama Team Camp.

“They’ll have instructors and the kids will learn basic techniques,” Jackson said. “It’s a good camp for the kids.”
