Rep. Bradley Byrne talked about a myriad of national issues at a town hall meeting in Atmore on Tuesday.
Byrne, the District 1 representative for Mobile, Brewton and Monroeville, addressed questions from citizens relating to the repeal and replacing of Obamacare, the Mexican boarder wall, the recent neo-nazi and white supremacist action in Charlottesville, Va. and North Korea, among other topics.
On the Obamacare issue, Byrne was asked if he supports a bipartisan effort or solution to repair healthcare.
“I don’t think the bill out of the House would cost 10s of millions of people to lose their healthcare,” he said. “I do support a bipartisan effort.”
Byrne noted that Democrats have yet to provide a solution to the healthcare bill, adding that the Medicare program is running out of money, and the only solution to keep the program alive is to raise the payroll tax, which he doesn’t agree with.
On the white supremacist acts, Byrne said he deplores the acts these groups exhibited in Charlottesville.
“I don’t agree with them,” he said. “I think they are wrong.”
He was also asked whether or not he’d support censuring President Donald Trump on his comments about the groups.
Byrne said he’s not going to censure the president for that, adding that he doesn’t know of anything he’s done that’s a high crime or misdemeanor.
On the Russian investigation into Trump, Byrne said the investigation needs to be conducted and play itself out in a quick manner.
“We have to have some closure on it,” he said.
