ECHS prepares for Monroe County Tigers

This week is all about getting better for Escambia County.

The Blue Devils are licking their wounds from a 41-8 loss to top-ranked UMS-Wright last week as they head into an important region contest at Monroe County on Friday.

ECHS head football coach Rico Jackson said the areas they are focusing on include competing and playing hard.

“Those are the two main things,” Jackson said. “Along with us knowing what we’re doing as far as offense and defense, and communication.”

Jackson said this week’s game is a big game because it’s the next game.

“We’re looking forward to a good week of practice and going out and getting better,” he said.

MCHS is 2-1 on the season, and the Tigers are coming off a 54-0 blistering from Andalusia. Their only wins this season include a home game against J.F. Shields and a road game against A.L. Johnson.

Jackson said the Tigers have a good quarterback, which stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 180 pounds.

“We’re going to have to play well,” he said. “We’re going to have to play well up front. They’ve got a big fullback. We need to play better on offense, and that starts at the front on the offensive line.”
