City closing recycling facility for now

The City of Atmore is closing its recycling facility temporarily while it looks for another company to do business with, Mayor Jim Staff announced Monday during the city council meeting.
The city currently is with Waste Pro USA out of Pensacola, Fla., and under a new deal, would have to pay some $13,000 each month in fees.
Staff said the city paid $260 per month for each of its 13 dumpsters. With the new fees, each dumpster would have a fee of $1,000.
“We were forced to look for another deal,” he said.
At present, the city is looking for a new recycling company, he said.
In other business, the council:
• approved Resolution 2017-13 for a grant for a fuel farm at the airport;
• approved the Atmore-Monroe/Escambia County Industrial Authority members of the commission, which includes… ; and,
• proclaimed Oct. 1 through Nov. 11 as National Poppy Month for Atmore.
