Heigel out as headmaster at EA, Fountain promoted

Wade Heigel has resigned as headmaster of Escambia Academy, according to a statement from the school’s board of directors.

Assistant Headmaster and Head Football Coach Hugh Fountain has been promoted to the position of headmaster. Fountain also coaches boys basketball and track and field.

“His love for the Cougars is evident in all that he does for our school and students, both on and off the field,” Board President Mike Campbell said in the statement. “This is a time for proven leadership and dedication, and there is no doubt that Coach Fountain can bring those skills to bear in this new roll.”

Details as to why Heigel resigned are confidential between him and board members, according to the board.

Heigel was hired as EA’s headmaster in November 2016.

Campbell said this new change in leadership will benefit the school for the future.

Heigel’s resignation is effective immediately, according to the statement.
