ECHS defeats TRM, WSN at county exhibition

Escambia County is looking to get fed after its performance at the county tournament in Brewton.

The Blue Devils beat T.R. Miller 69-38 on Dec. 7, fell 63-53 to Flomaton on Friday for their first loss and came back to beat W.S. Neal 57-45 on Saturday.

Lue Williams and Malik Brown led the Blue Devils against TRM with 19 and 16 points, respectively. Against Flomaton, Williams had 21 and Brown 15. To close out the tournament, Williams scored 19 and Demetrion Barnes and Brown had 12 each.

ECHS head boys basketball coach Rodney Jackson said the team played well against TRM on all phases of the game.

He added that the shots weren’t falling for the Blue Devils against Flomaton.

“Credit to them, they hit timely shots all throughout the game,” he said. “Against W.S. Neal, we played really well defensively.”

Jackson said they have a lot of work to do, and are just taking it one practice and game at a time.

“The locker room was down after our loss, but the boys came back the next day and answered back,” he said. “They are hungry to start another streak. We played hard, and smart. I’m proud of the boys.”

ECHS was 9-1 on the season as of Dec. 11, when The Atmore Advance went to press with its sports section.

Prior to the loss to FHS, the Blue Devils got off to a good start, defeating Vigor on Nov. 16, cruised through the Gulf Shores Thanksgiving Classic with wins over Spanish Fort and Gulf Shores, beat FHS and Clarke County and topped St. Luke’s on Dec. 4, before the county tournament.

ECHS has road games against FHS and Vigor on Thursday and Friday, respectively; and visits Clarke County on Dec. 18, prior to the T.R. Miller Tournament on Dec. 21-22.
