County officials said last week’s cold storm event was fairly quiet.

During the evening hours, temperatures dipped to the teens and didn’t breach 40 during the day.

The Escambia County School System, Escambia Academy and Brewton City Schools canceled classes Jan. 17-18 due to the icy conditions on the roads.

“It was a fairly quiet event,” Escambia County Emergency Management Agency Director David Adams said. “Most people did stay off the roads, at least early. As motorists started to venture out, we did have some reports of vehicles getting stuck in the roadways due to the ice and some loosing control and leaving the roadway.

“Most of the reports were from the Highway 21 area north of Atmore,” he said. “Most of the incidents were on hills where vehicles lost traction.”

Adams said he only received a couple reports of motor vehicle accidents with injuries.
