Escambia County is going to the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Class 4A state track and field meet this week in Gulf Shores after finishing high enough at a sectional meet in Brewton.
The Blue Devils will be competing against the best in the state at the meet, which is being held May 3-5.
Those who finished in the top five at sectionals advance to the state meet. Those ECHS athletes who are advancing to state include:
• 300 Meter Hurdles — Sean Marshall, first place
• 4×100 Meter Relay — ECHS relay team, first place
• Long Jump — Willie Pittman, second place; and Collinger Daughtry, fourth place
• 100 Meter Dash — Katyree Russell, fifth place
• 400 Meter Dash — Ladainian Dailey, third place
• 110 Meter Hurdles — Marshall, first place
• Girls 100 Meter Dash — Eunique Rudolph, second place; and Khalia Inglemon, fourth place
• Girls 200 Meter Dash — Inglemon, fourth place
Track and field coach Layton Knight said the boys 4×100 relay team finished as one of the top three fastest during the sectional meet.
He said his girl sprinters, including Rudolph and Inglemon, pretty much wrote their own ticket to the state meet.
Additionally, Knight said he was impressed with Daughtry, who is in his first year on the track team.
