Rite Aid in Atmore, which was recently purchased by Walgreens, will close its pharmacy to customers on June 6, and the store will remain open two weeks afterward until it closes for good, according to officials.
Walgreens Media Relations Officer Phil Caruso said in an email that Walgreens purchased 1,932 locations from Rite-Aid, and announced last October that some store locations will be closing to help “ensure we have the right stores in the right locations to create a more focused network of stores that can deliver the greatest value for our customers.”
Caruso said as a result of the effort, the Rite Aid on Church Street will close, and all prescription records will be available at the Walgreens on Main Street.
“We expect to have positions at other locations for the majority of affected team members,” he said. “Closing stores is never an easy decision. Our goal is to ensure that we have the right number of stores in the right locations to continue to help us deliver the greatest value for our customers.”
