NWE finishes 2nd in district

Playing on the same team has its advantages.
Jay, Fla.’s 8U Cal Ripken All-Stars beat Northwest Escambia 9-1 to win the District 7 championship Monday night in Atmore.
The Florida team played together during the regular season, only allowing 12 runs during action. District tournament wise, the Royals won their way through the winner’s bracket, dispatching NWE (on Friday) 3-1 and Atmore 14-0 in the first round. NWE battled its way in the loser’s bracket, defeating Monroe 13-7 on Saturday before rain washed the tournament out for the day.
Atmore fell 12-1 to Monroe in its second game on Friday.
Jay 9, NWE 1
The Royals roared to a good start, scoring five runs in the first inning of play. The Florida team put the game away in the third, scoring three runs to NWE’s one.
Jay’s Diesel went 3-for-3 with three runs and a triple; Tanner went 3-for-3 with three singles; Cam went 2-for-3 with two runs; Riley went 2-for-3 with a run and two doubles; Brison went 1-for-2 with a run and a single; and Cooper went 1-for-3 with a run.
NWE’s Camden Jacobson went 2-for-3.
NWE 13, Monroe 7
NWE battled back from a 4-1 deficit in the first inning to tie the game up in the fourth. The Chiefs tacked on three runs in the fifth and six in the sixth to pull away.
Tyler McAnally went 4-for-4 with two runs; Caleb Levins went 3-for-3 with three runs and a double; Silas Brown went 3-for-3 with two doubles; Luke Broom went 2-for-4 with a triple; and Sawyer Gilmore went 2-for-4 with two runs and a double o lead NWE.
Monroe’s Holden Brabner went 2-for-3 with a double; Grey Nettles went 2-for-3 with a run; Kaiden Marshall went 2-for-3 with a run; Kale Finklea went 2-for-2 with a triple; and Koen Crawford, Lane White and Kayven McMillan scored one run each.
Monroe 12,
Atmore 1
Atmore’s Tyson McMillan went 1-for-2; Koen Jackson went 1-for-2; and John Barlow went 0-for-2 with a run.
Monroe scored seven runs in the third inning, three runs in the second and two runs in the first inning.
Jay 3, NWE 1
Brison went 1-for-2 with a run and a double; Cooper went 2-for-2 with a run; and Cam went 1-for-2 with a run to lead Jay.
Levins went 1-for-3; Jacobson went 2-for-3; McAnally hit a home run; and Brown went 2-for-2 to lead NWE.
In earlier action, NWE beat Monroe 19-9.
