Northview is set for a challenge in Pensacola as the Chiefs visit Pensacola Catholic this week for a regular-season contest.
Last week, the Chiefs defeated rival, Jay, Fla. 30-20, for homecoming. During the game, NHS racked up 330 yards on the ground, and 120 yards in the air.
In the game, quarterback Ben Wilson and running back Jayden Jackson accounted for two touchdowns each. Wilson was 4-for-9 for 120 yards, and Jackson had 170 yards on 16 carries. Lance McLaughlin led the team with 11 tackles (2.5 tackles for a loss) on defense.
In regard to this week, Chiefs head football coach Derek Marshman said PC is probably going to be the best team they will face all season long.
Marshman said PC (3-4) lost to two top 10 Class 6A teams, and one top 10 1A team. He said PC beat two 6As and a 5A team.
“It’s going to be a big-time challenge,” Marshman said.
Leading up to the game at practice, Marshman said the focus has been defense (tackling) and blocking up front and down field.
During last week’s game, the Chiefs did a good job of mixing up offensive plays.
Marshman said the goal isn’t to be balanced, it’s all about whatever works.
“We’re good at both, but we hang our hat on being a physical football team,” he said.
Marshman said PC has a couple of good running backs, and is fast and athletic.
“We’re excited about the chance to go down there and play a bigger school,” he said. “It’s been a little while since we had a road game. It’s nice to get back on the road.”
Marshman said a goal for the team this season is to spoil a team’s homecoming.
PC is celebrating its homecoming this week, and kick off on Friday is at 7:30 p.m.
