Northview lost 41-22 to Pensacola Catholic tonight in regular-season action.

Chiefs head football coach Derek Marshman said it could’ve been better.

“We didn’t start very well at all,” he said. “That kind of hurt us. I don’t know if we were complacent after the past couple wins, and I don’t know if it was the glitz and glamour of their class — we just didn’t come out with the same mentality we have all season.”
Marshman said he believes this was the first time the lack of a strong mentality was the reason the Chiefs were beat, however.

“We finished a lot better than we started,” he said. “They were the best football team we’ve played all season long. We just didn’t hit everything on all cylinders.”

When asked how they pick themselves up to get ready for Baker next week, Marshman said the coaches reminded them after the game that other greats have lost, too.

“Nick Saban’s lost a championship, Muhammad Ali lost,” he said. “The difference between an average Joe and a champion is how you respond. That’s the championship mentality that we’re trying to instill in these kids.”
