Robert Coleman

A funeral service for Mr. Robert “Smiley” Coleman, 71, of Atmore, will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel LLC.

Mr. Coleman passed this earthly life on Wed., Oct. 10, 2018, at Atmore Nursing Care Center.

Jerry Duane Jones

Jerry Duane Jones passed away on Sept. 28, 2018.

He was a loving father, brother and devoted friend. He attended Escambia County High School, where he played basketball, football and did some swimming. He loved to go fishing. He was employed at Frates Construction in Leland, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roylad Keith Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Jerrica Jones; six sisters, Kenya (Grady) Betts of Pensacola, Fla., Lynn Johnson of Atmore, Phyllis Johnson of Clarksville, Tenn., Erica Johnson of Chicago, Ill. Theresa Johnson of Chicago and Joyce Johnson of Chicago; a devoted partner, Brenda Thornton of Greenville, Miss.; special cousins, Cassandra Henderson, Beulah, Lillie Boose, Tinnie Gray, Sondjra Gray an Cecelia Jones; two special friends, Greg Sims an Michael Henderson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Oct. 15, 2018 from Mayberry Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Pettaway Sr. officiating. Inhumation was held in Stallworth Cemetery.

Pallbearers were family and friends, and flower bearers were family and friends.

Final arrangements were handled by Mayberry Funeral Home.

 

Larry Douglas Green

Mr. Larry Douglas Green, 69, passed away on Thurs., Oct. 4, 2018, in Mobile.

He was a native of Chicago, Ill., former resident of Jay, Fla. and has resided in Century, Fla. for the past 38 years. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerald and Beatrice Green; son, Bradford Johnson; and brother, Jerry Green.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia C. Green of Century; one son, Robert Douglas (Amber Spivey) Green of Century; two brothers, Gary J. Green of Century and Greg (Lynn) Green of Century; two step-sisters; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services were held Oct.12, 2018, at the Godwin Cemetery.

Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes LLC was in charge of all arrangements.

 

Lottie Porter

Mrs. Lottie Porter, 58, passed away on Sat., Oct. 13, 2018, at her home in Dyas.

She was a native of Bay Minette and has resided in Dyas most of her life. She was a very loving and giving person, and attended the Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jackson R. Porter; daughter, Jackie A. Porter; granddaughter, Kaibrenna; two sisters, Marie Garrett and Mattie Lawson; and parents, Robert and Lottie Richardson.

She is survived by one son, Jackson (Jodi Fields) Porter of Dyas; four sisters, Sally (Vernon) Reasons of Nokomis, Maggie (Randy) Hayles of Mauk, Ga., Gloria Jean (Richard) Hinton of Butler, Ga. and Dale (Eddie) Lambeth of Dyas; and granddaughter, Brianna Hammond of Dyas.

Funeral services were held Oct.15, 2018, from the Dean’s Holiness Church with Sister Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial followed at the Dean Cemetery.

Visitation was held Oct. 15 at the Dean’s Holiness Church.

Pallbearers were Stoney Shiver, Robert Holmes, Seth Smith, Tristen Maddox, Richard Hinton and Cody Stabler.

Mary Alice Peterson

Mrs. Mary Alice Peterson, 82, passed away on Sun., Oct. 14, 2018, in Pensacola, Fla.

She was a native of Canoe and has resided in Bratt, Fla. since 1975. She was a navy wife serving at various duty stations around the country. She was a member and Sunday School Teacher at the Bratt First Baptist Church, where she filled various positions. She was also a cake decorator, doll maker, seamstress, Girl Scout leader and softball coach.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Myra Gilman; sister, Helen Wolfe; and brother, Luther J. (Junior) Gilman.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roland D. (Pete) Peterson of Bratt; one son, Gregory “Greg” (Tracy Ann) Peterson of Decatur, Tenn.; two daughters, Janice Ann Peterson (David) Coleman of Bratt and Karen Peterson (Dave) Tibbals of Perdido Key, Fla.; two brothers, James Edward (Sherrye) Gilman of Bratt and Robert Earl (Gloria) Gilman of Bratt; four sisters, Geraldine Godwin of Bratt, Willie-Jean (Alton) Edwards of Bratt, Betty Lou (Fred) Moore of Bratt and Patricia (Rick) Gregory of Bratt; one brother in law, Glenn Wolfe of Bay Minette; 10 grandchildren, Wayne, Patty, Jade, Jennifer, Jessie, Mari, Samantha, Ashley, Amanda and Nick; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Wed., Oct.17, 2018, from the Bratt First Baptist Church with the Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating.

Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation was held Oct. 16, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Andrew Wilson, Dennis Weaver, Wayne Coleman, Caleb Jernigan, Dave Tibbals and Michael Weaver.

Honorary pallbearers were Patty Stacey, Jade Wilson, Jennifer Wilson, Jessica Coleman, Mari Tibbals, Samantha Yoho, Ashley Peterson, Danny Gilman and David Coleman.

Memorials may be made to the Godwin Cemetery Fund.

Sherman Jerry Holland

Retired Master Sgt. Sherman Jerry Holland passed away Sun., Oct. 7, 2018.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Judy B. Holland.

He served in several campaigns during his military career. He loved to fish, cook and listen and dance to music. Great memories we have of a missed man.

He is survived by his children, Patricia Holland Vela, Margaret Holland Harrison, Kandi Holland Hughes and Sherman B. Holland; his wife, Mary E. Holland; two step-children, Kim Danley Whitfield and Kenneth Danley (Kristen); two sisters, Betty (Kenneth) Blanton and Jannie (Pete) Singleton; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and lots of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

 

Scottie Bernard Barron

Mr. Scottie Bernard Barron, 45, of Atmore, passed away on Fri., Oct. 12, 2018.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Mrs. Annie Hudson Barron; parents, Mr. Willie and Earnestine Barron; one sister, Teresa Barron Deese; one brother, Willie Fank Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Fri., Oct. 19, 2018, from the Chapel of Mayberry Funeral Home. Celebration services will be held at 11 a.m. this Sat., Oct. 20, 2018, from the Destiny Worship Center located in Atmore. Bishop Bernard Bishop will be officiating. Interment will be held in Stallworth Cemetery.

Mayberry Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
