Escambia Academy’s Pat McGhee accounted for five touchdowns to help lead the Cougars to a 35-12 victory over Lowndes Academy tonight in Canoe.

McGhee, who finished with 150 yards on 14 carries and four touchdowns on the ground, ran the ball in from 66 and 25 yards in the first quarter; 14 yards in the second; and 10 yards in the third. He made a 73-yard touchdown reception from Jabe Dawe in the third.

“He’s been pretty hot all year,” EA head football coach Hugh Fountain said about McGhee. “He’s had a good season.”
With the victory, EA improves to 7-2 overall, and 5-0 in AISA Class 2A, Region 2. The Cougars claimed the region championship last week with a 42-20 victory over South Choctaw.

Escambia Academy’s Jabo Davis led the defense with 7 tackles.

Fountain said he thought the team had a good week of practice, but a lot of players were out sick.

“They (Lowndes) had a good game plan and did good things against us,” he said.

Fountain said he believes EA will face Coosa Valley in the first round of the playoffs on Nov. 2.

Before then, the Cougars visit Fort Dale next week.
