Northview football players put aside the sport they play and went to Blountstown to make a donation on Sunday for Hurricane Michael relief.

Chiefs head football coach Derek Marshman said along with the football team, members of the NHS FFA, volleyball team, FSA and the entire student body chipped in on the donation.

“It was eye opening,” Marshman said about the experience. “It’s heart breaking. It was surreal and unimaginable. The pictures don’t do it justice at all.”
On Oct. 10, Hurricane Michael made landfall in Mexico Beach, Fla. as a Category 4 storm. The impact was felt immediately after it made landfall as Michael moved near Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Port St. Joe and St. George Island, to name a few.

Blountstown is approximately three hours away from Atmore.

Marshman said BHS lost its stadium as both home and away stands are gone, and the school’s gym and multiple houses in the area were lost.

Marshman said the school held drives for donations, and supplies were gathered.

“We brought a whole trailer of supplies,” he said. “We were also able to give a monetary donation.”
