Esther Mae Creamer

Mrs. Esther Mae Creamer, 89, passed away on Sat., Dec. 15, 2018, in Century, Fla.

She was a native of Wallace and had resided in Century most of her life. She was a member of the Faith Bible Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Odis and Stella Barrow; husband of 37 years, Ervin Creamer; and three brothers, Eugene Barrow, Jack Barrow and Frank Barrow.

She is survived by one son, Floyd Creamer of Mississippi; one daughter, Sue (Tony) Nolen of Century; two brothers, Roger (Winnie) Barrow of Dayton, Ohio and Gary (Jean) Barrow of Century; four grandchildren, Olivia Nolen, Zoe Creamer, Maddie Creamer and Abigail Creamer; two great-grandchildren, Bryson Moore and Braxton Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Dec. 18, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Barrow officiating.

Burial followed at Rock Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 17, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Tony Nolen, Jeff Nolen, Steve Creamer, Donald Godwin, Randy Murph and Joe Brown.

Gloria Virginia Long Cunningham

Mrs. Gloria Virginia Long Cunningham, 86, passed away on Fri., Dec. 14, 2018, at her home in Atmore.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. She retired from Vanity Fair with 33 years of service, was an avid sewer, loved babies and pictures for babies. She was of the Holiness Faith.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Bernard Cunningham; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris C. Long; and two brothers, J.D. Long and Charles Mabry Long.

She is survived by one son, Larry Bruce Cunningham; three daughters, Debra Smith of Atmore, Sherry Lambert of Atmore and Rita (Rick) Combs of Perdido; one brother, Tommy C. Long of Crystal Springs, Miss.; six grandchildren, Julie Howell, Jamie Howell, Tyson Lambert, Blake Cunningham, Norman “Bobo” Lambert Jr. and Dillon Smith; and 10 great-grandchildren, Braleigh, Raelyn, Adrienne, Treagan, Kaydence, Blakelynn, Marlee, Caleb, Cody and Clark.

Funeral services were held Dec. 17, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Joe White officiating.

Burial followed at the Serenity Garden Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 17 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Jamie Howell, Trent Flowers, Corey Flowers, Bill Walker, Cameron Murphy and Adam Barnhill.

James Andrew Byrd

James Andrew Byrd was born on Sept. 18 1938, in Atmore, and passed away on Dec. 14, 2018 in Montgomery.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps. in June 1957 and was honorably discharged from the U.S.M.C. reserves in December 1964.

Lt. Byrd was a state trooper with the Alabama Department of Public Safety for 29 years. (Sept. 7, 1964 through March 1, 1993.)

He received a master’s degree in criminal justice in March 1977 from Troy University.

He was preceded in death by parents, James Angus and Ruby Lee Byrd; and sister, Julia Ann Byrd.

Survived by wife, Mary House Byrd; sister, Marilyn Martinez; brothers, Bobby (Vada) Byrd, Mike (Shelia) Byrd; Stepson, Dale (Mary Ann) Pridgen; and granddaughter, Jennifer Pridgen.

A private graveside service was held Dec. 17, 2018, at Poplar Springs Baptist Cemetery in Uriah with the Rev. Matthew brown officiating. Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

 

Jean Daniels Steadham

Mrs. Jean Daniels Steadham, 71, passed away on Mon., Dec. 10, 2018, at her home in Atmore.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. She was a loving wife, mother, she owned and operated Jean Daniels Cosmetology of Atmore, and was a member of the First Methodist Church of Atmore.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin D. and Estelle Reynolds; and two brothers, Tony Reynolds and Bronzie Reynolds.

She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Charles Steadham of Atmore; two sons, Derwin Dale (Cynthia) Daniels of Biloxi, Miss. and Dover Dwight Daniels of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Adelia White of Byrneville, Fla. and Patricia Reynolds of Kentucky; two grandchildren, Miranda Michelle Adkinson and Anthony Dwight Daniels; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Dec. 12, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Elder. Gene Freeland officiating.

Burial followed at the Byrneville Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 12 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Tommy Smith, Timmie Smith, Johnny Mac Steadham, Van Cooley, Roger Hadley and Tommy Rolin.

The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for the care provided, and the home nurse that cared for Jean Steadham. Special thanks to family and friends for the love and support. Our loving mother and husband.

Johnny Braddock Mothershed

Mr. Johnny Braddock Mothershed, 54, passed away on Thurs., Dec. 13, 2018, in Mobile.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. He was a member of the Church of the Living God of Atmore.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick and Gladys Luverne Mothershed; nephew, Dyan Blake Barnhill; three aunts; and four uncles.

He is survived by three sons, Capt. Dexter (Candius) Donnell of Huntsville, Johnny (Kaleigh) Donnell of McDavid, Fla. and Deputy Skyler (Allison) Donnell of Jay, Fla.; one daughter, Hillary Donnell Mothershed of Atmore; two sisters, Dean (Rusty) Hodges of Atmore and Freddie Bowen of Atmore; nine grandchildren, Hayden Donnell, Hydee Donnell, Harlon Donnell, Porter Donnell, Emerson Donnell, Luke Donnell, Destiny Lynn, Felicity Lynn and Angelina Lynn; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Dec. 18, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Harrison officiating.

Burial followed at the Mothershed Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 17, 2018 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Skyler Donnell, Johnny Donnell, Dexter Donnell, Brandon Sutton, Steve Morris and Dennis Biggs.

June Ellison Croft

June Ellison Croft, a resident of Atmore, passed away in her home on Dec. 7, 2018.

She was born July 12, 1947 in Mobile. A memorial service was held at Robinsonville Baptist Church Sat., Dec. 15, 2018.

She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Croft; two sisters, Renee and Cheryl; and one bother, Charles. She never had any biological children of her own. She has one “adopted” daughter, Donna Cook. She is also survived by a host of family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Lula Bell Sessions Ellison Harris; and her father, P.W. Ellison.

She lived most of her life in the Atmore area. She was a Christian and attended Robinsonville Baptist Church. Her passion in life was to help those in need. June graduated from Escambia County High School and had an IT degree in programming language. June and her husband, Bob were married on Sept. 25, 1986. During their 32 years of marriage, they lived in Pensacola, Fla., Bay Minette, Moffat Co. and in Atmore. She worked many years with Greer’s Super Markets, Standard Furniture Manufacturing and Wind Creek Casino.

She loved attending church and shared many memories of her times as a girl attending Sunday School. June was extremely proud of how hard her mother worked as a single mom to care for her. Her family and friends who knew her best will miss her tomato gravy, her always being available to care for others in their times of need; even taking you into her home if you needed a place to stay.

Her request was for her body to be donated to the University of South Alabama for further study. It is the family’s hope through her generous donation that more can be learned about the different types of strokes and their causes.

The family would like to thank all first responders and caregivers who helped in June’s care for the last few years.

Kathryn T. Chapman

Kathryn T. Chapman, 93, of Atmore, passed away on Sun., Dec. 16, 2018, in Atmore.

She was a homemaker, born in Allen on March 20, 1925, to the late Fisher D. and Nettie Cammack Tarleton.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Atmore.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Fisher Ruth Tucker, Maxine “Maggie” Weston; and one brother, Morris E. Tarleton.

Survivors are her husband of 71 years, Giles D. Chapman Jr. of Atmore; one son, G. David (Carolyn) Chapman III; one daughter, Mary “Kathy” (Bryan) Keel of Atmore; and two grandchildren, Dixon Keel and David (Melissa) Keel.

Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. this Fri., Dec. 21, 2018, in Grove Hill Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 21 from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore, with Dr. Debora Bishop officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to more than bricks fund for the

First United Methodist Church of Atmore.

Mary Helen Williams Barrow

Mary Helen Williams Barrow from Atmore, and a resident of Pensacola, Fla. passed away.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Williams; mother, Helen Brown Williams; and a brother, Bobby Ray Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Barrow; three sons, Christopher Barrow, Eric Barrow and Michael Barrow; two granddaughters, Anna and Gracie Barrow; one grandson, Andrew Barrow; two brothers, Larry Barrow and Randy Barrow; and great-granddaughter, Ansley Ryland.

Phillip Wayne Godwin

Mr. Phillip Wayne Godwin, 74, passed away on Sun., Dec. 16, 2018, in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native of Flomaton and resided most of his life in Fannie, Fla. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army and was a lifetime member of the Blue Branch Hunting Club. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Mary Frances Godwin; wife of 50 years, Paulette Godwin; and sister, Vivian Clarice Watson.

He is survived by two sons, Marcus (Allison) Godwin of Century, Fla. and Brandon Godwin of Century; one daughter, Lisa Godwin (Daniel) Hoomes of Fannie, Fla.; four brothers, Frank Godwin of Century, Jerry (Linda) Godwin of Century, Danny (Enola) Godwin of Century and Randall (Tammy) Godwin of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one sister, Barbara (Aubrey) Carroll of Ponce de Leon, Fla.; one brother in law, Billy Watson of Milton, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Hunter Godwin, Shelton Blair, Lucas Blair and Colby Graham.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wed., Dec. 19, 2018, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Glen Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pineview Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 18, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Godwin, Sherman Glover, Eddie Dunsford, Jeff Carroll, Chris Carroll and Booney Hoomes.
