He was born at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton.

Daxton weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 inches long.

Mom, Morgan said she gave birth with no epidural.

“My regular due date was Jan. 4, but Dr. Heath induced me on Jan. 2,” she said. “I had been hurting, but we didn’t have anything exciting.”

She said they are overjoyed to have Daxton home.

“We didn’t know that they did the first baby of the New Year,” she said. “But we think it’s kind of cool. When I first got there, there was another girl who came in to have a baby, so for awhile it was a race, but they eventually sent her home.”

On Tuesday, Morgan had just taken Daxton to the pediatrician and he had gained a little weight.

Grandparents are Kim Shell of Brewton, Kevin Lowery of Atmore, Hazinea Brooks of Flomaton and Clemente Brooks Sr. of Flomaton.

He was welcomed home by big brothers Karson Brooks and Gauge Nelson.
