Junita E. Salter

Ms. Junita E. Salter, 75, of Atmore, entered into eternal sleep on March 28, 2019 at her residence.

A native of Atmore, Ms. Salter attended Escambia County Training School. She was a retired dietitian at Atmore Nursing Care Center. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and other children that she kept. She enjoyed cooking and her flowers. She was a faithful member of Harris Street AOH Church of God, where she served on the mother’s board.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ollie James Frye; her step-mother, Carrie Bell Watson; two sisters, Willie M. Shoemo and Bernita Ward; and two brothers, Ollie James Frye Jr. and Freddie Lee Frye.

Those left to cherish memories of her beautiful life are her daughter, Valerie Salter of Atmore; two sons, Winston (Nebral D.) Salter of Mobile and Overseer Shawon (Nerissa) Salter of Atmore; her mother, Emma Curry-Frye of Orangeburg, S.C.; seven sisters, Zola (Bishop Robert) Grissett, Judith Dobbs, Sandra (Willie) Knight and Elizabeth English, all of Atmore, Ethel Frye of Atlanta, Ga., Debra Jackson of Pensacola, Fla., and Elizabeth Frye of Eugene, Oregon; three brothers, Willie Frye and Edward Frye both of Eugene, and Ray Charles Smith of Hattiesburg, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three special friends, Vickie Mason, Mary Ann Hooks and Linda Barnes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held this Sat., April 6, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Deliverance Ministry of Jesus Christ No. 1, 102 2nd Ave., Atmore, with the Rev. Kelvin Williams as host pastor, and Overseer Shawon Salter as eulogist and Bishop Robert Grissett as Presider. Inhumation will be in Fairview Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Fri from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Her remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel directing.
