A Walnut Hill, Fla. man died and an 8 ear old was injured in a one-vehicle wreck Monday night near the intersection of Pine Forest Road and Pelt Road in Escambia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the FHP, Clayton J. Cagle, 31, of Walnut Hill, was driving his 1999 GMC Yukon east on Pine Forest Road, east of Pelt Road.
“Driver 1 failed to maintain control of the GMC, resulting in the GMC to veer off the road onto the north shoulder along Pine Forest Road,” the report said.
As a result, the GMC struck a tree, the FHP said.
Cagle was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:49 p.m. by Paramedic Susan Sherman.
The 8 year old was taken to Atmore Community Hospital via ambulance for injuries, where he was reunited with family, according to the FHP.
Cagle and the 8 year old were wearing seat belts, according to the FHP.
