Mr. Bruce Huey Eckert, 72, passed away on December 5, 2019, at his home in Rabun. 

Mr. Eckert was a native and lifelong resident of Rabun. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, was sweet, loveable and kind, retired, loved to fish, camping and Alabama Football. He was a member of the New Testament Church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Eckert; mother, Velma Lane Hall; and sister, Teresa Ann Eckert.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Joyce Eckert of Rabun; sons, Kelly Wayne (Melanie) Barrientes of Houston, Texas and Dewayne (Nikki) Minchew of Rabun; daughters, Kim (John) Platt of Chunchula, Renae (Eric) White of Rabun and Kelly (Joel) Smith of Chunchula; sister, Geneva Eckert (Joe Allen) Ward of Lucedale, Miss.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held December 9, 2019 at the New Testament Church with the Rev. Bubba Rolin and Rev. Tony Shackley officiating.

Burial followed at the Bryars-McGill Cemetery.

Visitation was held December 9, 2019 at the New Testament Church.

Pallbearers were Johnathon Platt, Gage McKenzie, Heath Ryan, Dillon Minchew, Brandon Goins, Jonah Smith and Tony Graham.

Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC of Atmore was in charge of all arrangements.
