The Pride of Atmore received a Good Roots grant from the Alabama Power Foundation, according to a release.

The grant will be used for the organization’s Arbor Project. The funds will go toward planting trees at Houston Avery Park.

Alabama Power’s Good Roots grant programs partners with the Alabama Forestry Commission and the Alabama Urban Forestry Association. The good roots grant program provides funding for cities, towns, communities and school systems.

The funds are being used to purchase trees that help improve the environment, enhance quality of life and support recreation and economic development efforts.

Forty Good Roots grants were awarded by the foundation, according to a release.

At present, the foundation has awarded $600,000 in Good Roots grants.

The Alabama Power Foundation was created in 1989 with funds donated by shareholders. The foundation has supported Alabama communities, educational institutions and nonprofits with nonratepayer dollars through more than 20,000 grant and scholarship awards.
