Work begins on renovation of Strand Theatre and Old Hardware Store

Pride of Atmore officials led a tour of the exploratory demolition of the Strand Theatre and the Old Hardware Store on Monday. The exploratory demolition is being completed because of the state’s historical tax credit. The 2017 Alabama Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit is a 25 percent refundable tax credit available for private homeowners and owners of commercial properties who substantially rehabilitate historic properties that are listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and are 60 years old or older.

The back wall of the lobby of the theatre was knocked out, revealing the theatre space behind with screen.

This is a big step for the local organization, which has been raising funds via donations and grants for some time.

Rolin Construction is renovating the spaces.
