Luerether Barnes passed away on Mon., Jan. 27, 2020. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and the many friends that she touched in life.

Luerether was born on November 18, 1938 in Mcintosh to William and Flora Barnes.

She was the sixth of 10 children. She was described as a pistol as a child earning her the nickname of “Annie Oakley” by her siblings.

Even though she was short in stature, she was a force to be reckoned with. From the moment she entered a room, her spirit and fire were undeniable.

Always there for you when you needed her, she had a fierce loyalty to her own, by blood and by heart.

Her kindness and charity were felt throughout by many, her family being the greatest benefactor.

Along with her love, loyalty and kindness, Luerether’s humor will also be missed. Her jokes and stories would have her family and friends laughing. She also loved to laugh.

A favorite source of entertainment for her was scaring her grandchildren.

Almost each of them recall being chased around the house with Grandmamma in a coconut mask.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Anna Williams of Montgomery, Winiford Barnes of Atlanta, Ga., Angela Barnes of Montgomery, Kelvin (Beverly) Barnes of Theordore, Kenneth Barnes of Mobile and Thomas (Candida) Barnes of Katy, Texas; with he privilege of being raised as a daughter, her granddaughter, Kaneshia Dock of Mobile; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virgie Lee Lewis, Jeanette Shaw, Lula Mae Green, all of Mobile, Annie Pearl Barnes of Long Island, N.Y.; brothers in law, Cleophus Lewis of Mobile, George Washington of McIntosh; a host of nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends and neighbors.

A celebration memorial service was held Feb. 1, 2020, at Samuel Chapel AMC Church in Prichard with the Rev. TW Parker as pastor, and the Rev. Rodger Stanton as efficient.

Mayberry Funeral Home of Atmore was in charge of arrangements.
