One died and another was injured in a house fire early this morning on Martinville Loop, according to officials.

Atmore Fire Chief Ronald Peebles said his department was called for mutual aid by the Poarch Fire Department at exactly 1:12 a.m. today.

Peebles said he doesn’t know what the cause was, and as a result of fatality, the state fire marshal’s office was called in to investigate. The name of the victim hasn’t been released by officials.

Peebles said the whole front of the house was fully involved by the time the AFD arrived.

The fire chief said firefighters had to shuttle water in from Highway 21 as there weren’t any hydrants near the home.

“We never ran out of water,” he said. “We had to keep trucks rotating back and forth.”

Peebles said a young child received burned blisters on his arms and hands. He added that there were a total of five in the house. All made it out, except for the victim, he said.
