Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Conversations are important.

Every week, I usually find myself at The Publican, where good conversations are usually had. I’m glad I take in this weekly venture because it helps.

One such conversation I had recently didn’t even occur at the local watering hole.

After taking pictures for a story I wrote about the new drop off and pick up lines at Rachel Patterson Elementary School, a student – asked to come over by Julie McDonald – came and had a short conversation with me.

Her name is Allie Harris, and I didn’t catch what grade she is in, but quickly learned about her bunny.

Teachers standing nearby noted that Harris likes to talk. Those who know me, know that I’m the exact opposite.

Anyway, Harris told me about her green bunny, and that she likes art.

Her favorite things to draw include rainbows and butterflies.

I imagined a rainbow-like butterfly flying away in one of her drawings.

Back to reality, I am fortunate I got to meet Harris because nowaways I see too many people stuck to their phones in conversation-like settings. Now, I’m guilty of this I’ll admit, but there comes a time where we need to put the phones down and talk.

I’m glad I wasn’t buried in my phone or notes to have that conversation with Harris.

Draw and talk on, young lady.
