Thirty years ago, in 1990, it was announced that Baseball Coach Mickey Cannon would be leaving Escambia County High School to become the head basketball coach at Jefferson Davis Junior College. Cannon would be replacing his father, Frank Cannon.

Clarence Foster Jr., 30, of Century, Fla., went on trial for the beating death of a Damascus woman, Linda McClean. Her body was found in a ditch near the Alabama-Florida state line. She had been seen with Foster at Odom’s bar in Century and she was seen leaving with him. A witness, Clark Burt Jr., saw Foster hit McClean shortly after leaving the bar. Foster was later found guilty after an hour and 45 minutes of deliberation by the jury. He could be given life without parole.

Two events coming up advertising their wares for those interested. The circus was coming to town and sponsored by the Atmore Resquad. The Allen C. Hill Great American Circus was to be set up at Adams Plaza in a big tent. It was advertised as the largest under the big top in the United States. They had the ony circus to have baby elephants performing.

The other event was the upcoming The Prom. Juniors and Seniors were getting ready for the big day. A rental store had a basic black tux for $29.95 and basic tails could be rented for $49.95 with a free bow tie

Christopher John Hill did not stay free very long after he was released from Fountain Corrections Center for receiving stolen property and violation of probation. He was released in the morning and by 1 p.m. he was back behind bars for stealing a car.
