Virtual Learning is going to play a major role in finishing the academic school year, officials said.

 

Due to COVID-19 all K-12 school facilities will not reopen for students this academic year statewide.

However, Gov. Kay Ivey announced recently that she signed a supplemental state of emergency that allows school systems to resume instruction from home starting April 6, 2020 until the end of the academic school year, on May 21.

 

“Escambia County (Ala.) Schools will not reopen to students this academic year, but we will move ahead with an instructional delivery plan consistent with the order of Governor Ivey,” Superintendent John Knott said.

 

“In the coming days, we will work with the Alabama State Department of Education, our administrative team, and teachers to finalize the implementation of our teaching and learning plan,” Knott said. “We are committed to develop a system that will provide an instruction plan that works for at-home instruction and at-home learning.”

 

Unfortunately for sports, band and other extracurricular activities, it means the end for this school year.

 

Knott encouraged students and parents to continue to monitor the Escambia County Schools website and social media for updates.
