Digmon announces candidacy for mayor

Ernie Digmon announced his candidacy for mayor of Atmore on Monday.

Digmon is the son of Letty Digmon, a longtime resident of Atmore; and the late Jimmy Digmon.

“This is my hometown and I am proud of where I have come from,” Digmon said.

Digmon graduated with honors from Escambia County High School in 1997.

“I am proud of my education I received here,” he said. “I went on to further my education at Spring Hill College in Mobile, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in history.”

After college, Digmon gained employment at the Escambia County Department of Human Resources as a social service caseworker, handling child and adult abuse and neglect cases.

“I gained valuable knowledge of our region, and resources available to the citizens of our town,” he said.

Before returning to Atmore full time, Digmon worked in aviation in Mobile at Brookley Field for a company called Aerostar. Digmon served as supervisor of the component repair shop, and they won the governor’s award for the top shop in the state of Alabama the year before he returend to his hometown.

“Through education, hard work, experience and knowledge of our entire community, I feel as though I would make a high quality candidate to lead our town into the future,” he said. “Vision, energy and ability are what I hope to bring to city hall.

“Through compassion and intelligence, I hope to lead,” he said.
