Escambia Academy alumni and football coaches are constructing new bleachers for the football stadium.

Alumnus Abby Harris said a bunch of local companies donated time, equipment and manpower to tear down the old bleachers.

The press box on the new visitors side will be torn down at a later date.

Those donating time, equipment and manpower included Clint Barlow, who donated heavy equipment; Kathy Robinson, the president of EA’s athletic club; sorted alumni; coaches Mike Sims and John Fields; Young Construction; Stanley’s Backhoe Services; Overton Electric and Construction; and First National Bank and Trust is helping finance the effort.

Harris said the new bleachers will be fully metal, replacing the former wooded stands. They’ll be up the first week of August, she said.

“The stands were the original bleachers from when the school built the stadium,” she said.
