Jethro Dailey Sr.

Mr. Jethro Dailey Sr., 96, of Atmore (Freemanville Community) answered the master’s call on Wed., July 22, 2020 at North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette.

He was born Feb. 6, 1924 in Satsuma. He was one of 13 children born to Callie Grace and Ervin Dailey.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Lizzie Mae Dailey who passed this life on March 11, 2015; and his second oldest of 11 children, Ms. Clarice “PeeWee” Dailey, who transitioned from this life on July 14, 2020, just eight days prior to his demise.

He was retired from the Monsanto Chemical Co. on May 31, 1985. He spent his latter years serving as a volunteer fireman with the Poarch Fire Department. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, farming, raising livestock, an avid Atlanta Braves fan, as well as an Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He was a longtime member of the Mt. Gillead Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served as chairman of the deacon board. He also was master mason, worshipful master, royal arch-high priest, knight temple, consistory-lutnute, shriner – first ceremony master, imperial council, united supreme council 33rd degree, member of the Atmore community male chorus, member of the laymen department in the Bethlehem District Baptist Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, nine siblings; brothers, Eddie Lee Dailey, Ester Dailey and Marcellous Dailey; and sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Ardella Packer, Geraldine Lewis, Jeanette Coleman, Marie McPherson and Carrie Lee Dailey.

Those left to cherish the memories of his life and legacy are seven daughters, Evelyn G. Akers, Zernice Valerie, Mildred (Cleve) McKenzie, Neva Taylor, and Nerissa La Tongia Tucker all of Atmore, Mary Dailey and Wilhelmina Hellman, both of Huntsville; three sons, Jethro (Jami) Dailey Jr. of Huntsville, Rickey Dailey and Erwin (LaVon) Dailey, all of Atmore; two sisters, Reather Quarker and Alma Staples, both of Atmore; one brother, McKinley (Gola Mae) Dailey of Atmore; a host of grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren

A graveside service was held on July 25, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Danny Benjamin officiating and Turner Funeral Chapel directing.
