Joseph Lee “Joe” Sims, 93, of Atmore, passed away on Sept. 2, 2020 in Atmore.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1926 to the late August and Lille Sims in Wetumpka.

He received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior while in prison. He was paroled in 1972 and received his pardon by the State of Alabama in 1977.

He had a giving heart and his life was a living testimony of God’s grace, leaving a Godly legacy. He was a member of Mennonite Christian Fellowship and memorized over 3,000 bible verses. The children looked forward to getting candy from him every Sunday at church. He was in the United States Army and was employed for over 45 years with Escambia Feed and Seed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.

His is survived by many friends who considered him family.

A funeral service was held on Sept. 5, 2020 at Mennonite Christian Fellowship with Pastor Blaine Copenhaver and Bro. Carl Martin officiating.

Active pallbearers were Curvin Hursh, Calvin Schrock, Marlin Metzler, Curtis Davison, Dr. Jon Yoder and Harold Weldy.

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Weber and Marvin Bender, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the We Care Program.
