Thirty years ago, in 1990, believe it or not, the city of Atmore was looking forward to Christmas. To be more specific, the Christmas Parade. Several years before, the city had decided to base the parade on a central theme. In 1990, the public was encouraged to submit a theme title to be used for the parade that year, which was to take place on Dec. 8.

Atmore Fire Chief Charles Rutherford marked his 36th year with the department with a celebration.    

A man driving a car with North Carolina plates was apprehended, arrested and charged with armed robbery. He apparently robbed the Atmore Minute Stop with a tire iron.

Lula Boggan received a phone call from her son who had been in Santa Ana, California getting ready to go to the Middle East. She still doesn’t know exactly where he is.

Stories like this are showing up more often. In hindsight, most of us saw something bad was coming, but who knew that, in the next 30 years we would still be so involved with that part of the world?

The rebuilding of the sidewalks downtown was just about finished after a massive undertaking to help the looks of the city.

Escambia County Officials Bob Bonner, tax collector; Devon Wiggins, probate judge; and Jim Hildreth, tax assessor, were considering a trip to Greenville, N. C., to see a computer system that they might use. It was supposed to save the county $65,000.

Andrew Stabler was photographed with a sweet potato he grew that looked like a swan. The potato weighed more than two pounds.
