An Atmore woman is organizing a food drive to help those living in the city and surrounding areas who were affected by Hurricane Sally.

Organzier Niki Everette said a lot of people lost their food because of power outages as a result of the storm.

“A lot of grocery stores have been emptied,” Everette said. “A lot of people don’t have the money to replace the lost food or feed their families right now. Some won’t qualify for government assistance.”

Everette is asking for donations so she can help families in need.

“We need canned goods, non-perishables, pre-packaged snacks, waters, etc.,” she said.

Everette said no fresh produce as she doesn’t want anything to go to waste.

Drop off locations include Atmore City Hall, We Care in Atmore, 30 Below Icecream and Junque in the Trunk.

“Totes for donation drop offs will be out front of the locations Tuesday and Wednesday all day,” she said. “Please place items in the designated totes. If you’d like to leave a note with your name or an encouraging message for people in need, please do so. If you would like to send a monetary donation, we will gladly go buy the foods for you. Please (personal message) me for my PayPal. Anything helps.”

Everette said once they get all donations sorted and bagged, pick up times and place for families will be announced.
