John Calvin Cox Jr., 88, transitioned to his heavenly home on Sept. 9, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at SADD Hospice in Mobile.
He was born to Mr. John C. Cox Sr. and Mollie Cox of Bay Minette, on July 15, 1932.
He was married to his wife, Jacquline Deloris Cox for 41 years.
They married on March 22, 1955, and traveled the world while raising their family and serving in the U.S. Army, before settling down in Bay Minette.
Cox accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He served God as a deacon at Union Missionary Baptist Church until moving his membership to Morning Dove Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until he drew his last breath.
Cox also served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army, and his community as a city councilman and bailiff to Judge Pamala Baschab.
Cox was a true Good Samaritan, helping anyone in need.
Cox was preceded in death by his wife; and his son, Stanley (Isabella) Cox of Bay Minette.
He leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters, Voncile (Tom) Gray Sr. of Latham and Jeanetta (Ruffin) Crook of Bay Minette; and three sons, Lawrence Cox, Arnold (Tonia) Cox Sr. and John (Constance) Cox III of Bay Minette.
He was preceded in heaven by his brother, Clarence (Cecile) Cox Sr. of Akron, Ohio; and sister, Mary (Eddie) Anderson Sr. of Bay Minette.
He leaves to cherish his memory, sister Aretha McReynolds; and brother, Elbert Cox of Akron.
He was preceded in heaven by his brother in laws, Steven (Van) Boykin of Virginia, Chris Boykin of Mobile and Carl (Cam) Boykin of Virginia.
He leaves to cherish his memory, sister in laws, Carolyn B. Ashby of Virginia and Marilyn (Anthony) Kid of Pennsylvania; brother in laws, Allison (Bernice) Boykin, Jerald (Lolita) Boykin, Dwight (Patricia) Boykin Sr. and Barry (Peggy) Boykin of Bay Minette.
His grandchildren are Felicia (Carlos) Andrews Sr., Tom (Joetta) Gray Jr., Tony (Shaquita) Gray, Kevin (Marie) Cox, Kimberly (Donald) Killings, Aaron (Patty) Cox, Stevie (Paula) Jackson, Anthony (Levatta) Cox, Laquinea (Roy) Mitchell, Tiffany (Jarvis) Bryant, Marcus M. Cox, Jamal D. Cox, Shemaiah M. Snowden, Atonio (Von) Cook, Carjetta L. Crook, Johnathan (Kim) Crooks, Melissa (Jamaal) Hardy, Orlando Cox, Arnold S. Cox Jr., Ashley T. Cox, Ariel B. Cox, Andre Cox, John (Ebony) Cox IV, Christopher E. Cox, Nekisha S. Cox and Jacqualine D. Cox.
He also had 48 great grandchildren and six great-great granchildren. He has three God children and devoted friends.
A viewing was held Sept. 19 at Morning Dove Baptist Church in Perdido. Interment was held in Mutual Aid Cemetery in Bay Minette. Professional services were entrusted to Mayberry Funeral Home of Atmore.
