Escambia Academy, Northview to meet Friday

The distance between Canoe, Ala. and Bratt, Fla. is some 4 miles.

The distance between the two  goal posts on Bachelor Field where Escambia Academy and Northview are set to meet this Friday night is some 120 yards.

EA and NHS are on different paths in the 2020 season. The Cougars sit at 4-1 on the season, while the Chiefs are 1-0.

NHS began its season last week with a 39-6 victory over Holmes County. EA beat Tuscaloosa Academy 28-13 on the road.

Both are tied at 1-1 on the series.

EA head football coach Hugh Fountain admitted he doesn’t know much about the Chiefs, but stressed that this week’s game is important for his Cougars.

So far this season, the Cougars have given up an average of 14.8 points per game, while scoring an average of 32.2 points.

NHS head football coach Wes Summerford said this week’s game is one you can’t quite put a finger on.

“It’s always a tough game, we go nose to now, and expect nothing different,” Summerford said. “I’m sure it’s going to be a battle. He’s (Fountain) excited to get it over there. It’ll be a battle over there for sure.”

During last week’s victory over TA, quarterback Landon Sims scored a touchdown, along with Daughtry McGhee at running back. Bubba Nettles, a running back, added a couple of scores.

The Chiefs led 19-0 late in the third quarter last week. Running back Jayden Jackson scored on a run late in the same period to put his team ahead big.

Early in the fourth, Holmes County scored on a 3-yard dash.

Northview’s Logan Bryan added a 67-yard touchdown run a short time later, and Jackson converted the 2-point conversion to put the Chiefs ahead 33-6.

Odom later scored on a 8-yard run with 5:42 left in the fourth.

Kick off this Fri., Oct. 2, is at 7 p.m. in Canoe.
