When Hurricane Delta enters the Gulf of Mexico, it will gain intensity and impact portions of the northern gulf coast as a significant and dangerous hurricane, according to the National Weather Service.

Delta is expected to make landfall well west of the Mobile area, according to the NWS. Impacts often occur outside of the cone and any shift in track to the eastern side of the cone would increase the local impacts.

A storm surge watch is in effect for coastal Alabama for a potential storm surge of between 2-4 feet. Minor coastal flooding is possible further east into northwest Florida, according to the NWS.

Outer rain bands of Delta will potentially impact portions of southeast Mississippi and southwest Alabama, and bring the threat of gusty winds, locally heavy rain and isolated tornadoes Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.
