Murray Dwane Ellison, 84, a native of Covington County and a resident of Atmore, passed away on Oct. 16, 2020.

He was born on July 3, 1936 in Rose Hill to the late Ammie Dewey and Ethel Dean Wasdin Ellison. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in various offices and positions for 40 years retiring as postmaster from the Flomaton Post Office.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958 during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Judson Baptist Church serving in positions as deacon, Sunday School director and adult Sunday School teacher over the years. Mr. Ellison’s pastime was building cabinets and traveling with friends. He was a friend to everyone he met and will be remembered for his humor, generosity and honesty.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Ammie D. and Ethel Wasdin Ellison; two brothers, Phillip Ellison and Johnny Paul Ellison; and four sisters, Vonteen E. Murph, Mildred E. Phillips, Louise E. Sessions and Hazel E. Fore.

He is survived by his wife, Ima Ree Jeter Ellison of Atmore; one son, Alan Dwane Ellison of Fairhope; one daughter, Janet Leah and John Eric Brantley of Atmore; four grandchildren, John Walker and Katie Brantley of Atmore and Scott Austin Brantley of Atmore, Patrick Alan Ellison of Fairhope and Elizabeth Claire Ellison of Fairhope; two great-grandchildren, Walker Bruce Brantley and William Brooks Brantley of Atmore; and one brother in law, Edwin Davison Fore of Atmore.

Funeral service was held on Oct. 18, 2020 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Henry Wilson and Rev. Brett Chancery officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were John Walker Brantley, Scott Austin Brantley, Patrick Alan Ellison, Garrick Nesmith, Randall Barnett and Robert Berry.

Honorary pallbearers were John Dorriety, Atmore Post Office Retirees, ECHS-Classmates of 1954.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pilots for Christ, P. O. Box 707, Monroeville, AL 36460, American Heart Association or The Alabama Baptist Children’s Home of Mobile, AL.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
