Atmore fire officials were called for mutual aid Oct. 20 for a fire that occured in a warehouse at Tri County Peanut in the Huxford Community.

Chief Ronald Peebles said the AFD were called at 9:11 p.m., and cleared the scene at 2 a.m.

“We took a ladder truck, but they already had a man lift to get up where they needed to be,” Peebles said.

Several fire agencies responded to the scene, where smoke could be seen escaping through the top of the warehouse.

Tri County Peanut Scales Processor Ashleigh Norris said today that the cause of the fire was due to a belt catching fire.

“Nothing was messed up,” Norris said. “All the peanuts are good. We should be back up and running in the next day or two.”

Norris said some 10,000 tons of peanuts are located in the warehouse.
