City council approves 2020-21 operating budget

The Atmore City Council approved a more than $12 million 2020-21 operating budget at its regular meeting on Nov. 9.

The budget includes a 7 percent pay raise for all city employees, and the following projected expenses by department:

• General Government – $1,470,200

• Municipal Court – $217,200

• Building and Inspection – $326,300

• Cemetery – $237,800

• Police Department – $3,474,000

• Fire Department – $1,569,600

• Street and Sanitation – $2,119,925

• Park and Recreation – $224,100

• Library – $279,200

• Subsidies and Apprecation – $1,671,375

• Airport – $79,500

• Beautification – $280,800

• Landfill – $431,800

Projected revenues – $12,381,800

City Councilwoman Eunice Johnson said during the meeting that she’s looking forward to working with the community, and bettering it going forward.

“I just wanted to let you know that I’m looking forward to working with each and every one of you adn their respective places,” she said.

In other business, the council:

• approved the appointment of Ken Cooper to the board of zoning adjustment;

• adopted resolution 2020-28, authorizing Civil Southeast LLC to make an application to the Alabama Department of Transportation for the Rebuild Alabama Act annual program;

• adopted resolution 2020-29, authorizing the city of Atmore to apply for airport improvement funding assistance from the state of Alabama; and,

• adopted resolution 2020-30, declaring grass and weed nuisances on specific properties within city limits.
