Think of others this holiday season

There was already a line waiting at Walmart on Dec. 17, where the Shop with a Cop event was held.

Last week, the Atmore Police Department held its first ever Shop with a Cop event. Kids from Atmore-area schools got the chance to spend $100 on gifts for themselves, and a gift for another.

It was a pleasure to watch each kid shop around in the store, and then leave with big smiles on their faces.

Some, even, chose big fluffy animals to take with them.

As some 100 children came and went with their gifts, I was reminded that there are always people in need.

With just over two days left until Christmas Day, take some time to think about those who you know that may be in need.

Think about how they’re going to be spending Christmas. If you can help monetarily, that’s great. If not, do a kind gesture for them like providing a meal for their family or bringing a needed item their way.

With that simple act of kindness, you can change someone’s Christmas for the better.

Everytime our intermediate family gets together whether it’s with my brothers and their respective children, a common prayer is said before meal times.

“Father, thank you for this meal and the hands that prepared it. Help us to remember the needs of others.”
