COVID-19: 1,288 cases reported from hospitals

The Escambia County Healthcare Authority announced today that that 1,288 cases of COVID-19 have been reported out of its two hospitals.

The latest is an increase of 40 cases since Jan. 5, 2021 when the ECHA released its last update.

According to a release, 857 cases have been reported out of Atmore Community Hospital, and 431 from D.W. McMillan Memorial in Brewton.

At ACH, 3,831 specimens have been collected, 2,910 have been negative with 16 pending and 48 inconclusive.

At DWM, 1,922 specimens have been collected with 1,443 negative results, 19 pending and 29 inconclusive.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, 2,893 confirmed cases have been reported out of Escambia County. Some 1,614 specimens have been collected over the last 14 days. This is an increase of 1,008 specimens since the Jan. 5 report.

Thirty-four people have died in the county.

The numbers are updated biweekly to help reflect current case numbers from the ECHA. Due to the timing of the informatin, the numbers may differe from the numbers on the ADPH’s website.

Confirmed cases are recorded by public health officials in the patient’s county of residence.
