Poarch officer involved in shooting

A Poarch Tribal Police officer was involved in a shooting today, Jan. 8, 2021, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Senior Trooper Gary Cole said in a release at the request of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, special agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving a Tribal police officer.

Law enforcement were seen investigating the shooting at the main entrance of the Creek Travel Plaza this morning.

Cole said in a release that one person was injured in the shooting and was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. None of the officers involved were injured, he said.

Cole said nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.

Once complete, findings will be turned over to the Escambia Coujnty district attorney’s office.
