The Atmore City Council adopted resolution 2021-05, selecting Civil Southeast LLC to provide all permitting and engineering design for intersection improvements on Highway 21 and Poarch Road during its regular meeting on Monday.

The resolution was adopted after recent ATRIP-II funding was awarded to the city of Atmore for the project, which includes:

• Intersection improvements on Highway 21 at Poarch Road east, including the right turn lane on Hwy. 21 north, left turn lane on Hwy. 21 south; and,

• modifying the existing traffic signal.

In other business, City Councilwoman Eunice Johnson said she’s still receiving complaints about four wheelers speeding through on Gray Street.

Johnson said she talked with Mayor Jim Staff about the issue, and asked Chief Chuck Brooks to continue to patrol the area.

“We have elderly people and sick people over there, and the street is a dead-end street,” Johnson said. “They’re also asking for speed bumpers, but unfortunately, we can’t get those, but we do have (20-miles-per-hour) signs up.”

Johnson said the four wheelers are especially prevalent later in the evening.

Johnson also reminded citizens to please wear their masks, respect everybody and one another as the virus numbers continue to rise.

Additionally, as part of an effort to continue to clean up the community, Johnson said those who are interested can meet up this Sat., Jan. 30, at 8 a.m., to help clean up Patterson Street.

She asked for volunteers for the effort, and added that the city is providing buckets and sticks for the clean up.
