Escambia County is averaging five confirmed cases of COVID-19 per day, according to Bamatracker’s website.

This data is compiled from the Alabama Department of Public Health.

At present, the county’s average is down from a high of approximately 40 cases dating back to Jan. 11, 2021.

The county’s seven-day average is around 22 percent. The good news is that it’s a drop of more than 77 percent, according to data from the ADPH.

Escambia County Healthcare Authority officials said they are seeing a slowing number of positive tests. As of Feb. 23, there have been 1,561 positive cases reports. Since the Feb. 19 update, the ECHA has reported a decrease of two positive tests.

“The rate at which people are testing positive is dropping,” ECHA Director of Public Affairs and Marketing Jason Daniel said. “This with the increased number of vaccines we have given to date, along with now other vaccination opportunities, will only serve to drive the COVID-19 rates down further. These are all positive signs (in a good way) and we’re seeing signs of progress.

“We would ask that everyone stay vigilant, wear their masks, stay home when they are sick and quarantine if they are infected,” he said.

Daniel said through Feb. 12, the numbers of vaccines given by hospital is the following:

• Atmore Community Hospital

 1st dose — approximately 1,290 shots

2nd dose — approximately 180 shots

• D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital

 1st dose — approximately 1,490 shots

2nd dose — approximately 400 shots
