Mrs. Susan Lovelace Murphy, 78, of Excel, passed away on March 22, 2021 at her residence.

She lived most of her life in Escambia and Monroe Counties. Mrs. Murphy was a native of Pensacola, Fla., where she was born to the late Samuel L. Lovelace Sr. and Ruby Cottle Lovelace. The bridge entering into NAS Pensacola was named in her father’s memory.

Mrs. Murphy was a 1960 graduate of Pensacola High School. She was a 1964 graduate of Auburn University and earned her associate’s degree and a master’s degree from Troy University. Mrs. Murphy retired after 32 years of teaching and was a member of Excel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel L. Lovelace Sr. and Ruby Cottle Lovelace; and husband, Cecil M. Murphy Jr.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by two sons, Mark (Cindy) Murphy of Excel and Mike (Jimmie Lynn) Murphy of BayMinette; brother, Samuel (Pat) Lovelace Jr. of Johns Creek, Ga.; sister in law, Charlotte Murphy of Pensacola; grandsons, Matthew Murphy, Morgan Murphy, Logan Murphy and Wesley Parker; granddaughters, Mallorie Murphy and Micah Murphy; great-grandchildren, Matison Murphy, Maddox Murphy, Marshall Cullen Murphy, Myles Murphy and Joanna Cobb; five nieces; and one nephew.

Graveside services will be held tomorrow, Wed., March 24, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore with the Rev. Terry Harden officiating.

Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
